I joined WEA in 2016 as a sessional ESOL tutor providing tuition to groups in the Glasgow area. In 2018, I became lead tutor on the Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund. I work with our lead partner, the Scottish Refugee Council, to carry out ESOL assessments and encourage learners to join our classes.
I design and deliver 10-week ESOL courses to refugees in Glasgow, which are tailored to learners’ needs. The primary objectives of our classes are to reduce social isolation and improve learners’ English language skills, focusing on 'real life' English that they can apply in their daily lives. I also signpost learners to cultural and educational events in Glasgow that might be of interest to them and support them in progression to college or other opportunities at the end of their WEA course.
