Women in the Highlands Choir

One of the great successes of this project has been the formation of a Women in the Highlands Choir. They have performed at several events in the Highlands including the Women in the Highlands Annual Conference

The Women in the Highlands project (WITH) works to remove barriers caused by rural isolation, poverty and inequality, to give women a voice at home, at work and in the wider community. WITH aims to inspire and encourage women to connect and engage with, and participate in their communities and wider society, to access personal development opportunities and build their personal and societal potential.

This grass-roots project will make a huge difference to women in the Highlands, empowering them so that they can engage with and contribute to civic society, making a difference not only to their own lives and that of their families, but to their communities.
The WEA Women in the Highlands (WITH) project will lay the foundations for four self-governing and sustainable groups for women in the Highlands.
Through the founding of these groups, women will be encouraged and empowered to participate in and engage with services and civic society. Links to the Women’s Equality Steering Group via a Highland satellite cluster will lead to increased community cohesion and recognition.
Understanding and recognising the needs of women is fundamental to the project.
Through participation in project events, the development and training needs of women will be identified and the design of workshops and other events provided will be guided by, and designed in response to, these needs.
It is anticipated that although some common themes will emerge from the groups, specific needs will be identified in some areas. Working with our partners, and the women who participate, we will address these needs by offering specifically designed development and training opportunities.
WEA Women in the Highlands (WITH) works in the Highlands to remove barriers caused by rural isolation, poverty and inequality, to give women a voice at home, at work and in the wider community. It has three main aims:

OUTCOME 1:
Women in the Highlands will be inspired and encouraged to connect, engage with and participate in their communities and wider society.

OUTCOME 2:
Women in the Highlands will be supported to access development opportunities which will further their personal and societal potential.

OUTCOME 3:
WEA Women in the Highlands aspired to create and support four self-governed and self-sustaining women’s groups which will represent the voices of Highland women.
